LA GEORGIENNE

à Les Manoirs de Tourgéville

Last weekend I visited Normandy for the very first time. I really wanted to explore the famous beach of Deauville with it’s beautiful colourful umbrellas and Les Planches (changing cabins, each of them with Hollywood actors’s name on it who participated in the Deauville American Cinema Festival). In the center of the city there are many interesting boutiques, so it’s very easy to spend time and money on shopping there. In general, I liked Deauville, it’s a perfect place if you like horses races and casinos. Maybe a little too much for me :).

In the evening,we decided not to stay in Deauville but rather in a small town a few minutes away from Deauville and the main reason for this, is that we found a beautiful and calm hotel in Tourgeville – Les Manoirs de Tourgeville. It is very beautiful, everything around is very green and you can really feel the spirit of Normandy.

Les Manoirs de Tourgeville is a 4* hotel set in, for Normandy typical, very charming half timbered farmhouses. They have a heated indoor pool, tennis court, a restaurant, bicycle rental, plenty of space to walk around and get lost in the beautiful nature and even a cinema.

We just stayed one-night, but luckily we already arrived earlier in the afternoon so we had enough time to drop-off our stuff in the room and enjoy the sundeck next to the pool. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our trip. We left Paris with a grey sky and rain and as soon as we arrived in Tourgeville the sky cleared up and the sun came out.

Our room was quite spacious. We had a duplex room, with the living room and bathroom downstairs and a big bedroom on the first floor. The room had everything we could have wished for our short stay.

Most of our afternoon we spent outside at the sun-deck enjoying the sun and sipping cold beverages. I love when you have the opportunity to just arrive at the hotel and relax, not being forced to go out and explore things, but rather rest and enjoy. That’s why we also decided not to go to Deauville or Trouville for dinner but rather stay at the hotel and have dinner at it’s restaurant called “1899“.

They offer a modern kitchen with locally sourced ingredients that is inspired by traditional dishes. The restaurant is set in a very spacious circle shaped building with a warm and welcoming interior. We were quite hungry after the drive and that fact that we kind of skipped lunch, so we opted for the 3 course menu. As starter we had marinated and raw cooked beef with avocado and mango salad, which was not only beautiful to look at but also tasted very delicious. For the main course we had 2 choices, I went with caramelised (mmmmh!!) roasted pork belly and Sebastian took “Piccata de Veau” with potatoes and truffles.

For the grand final I couldn’t resist and took the cheesecake with strawberries and ice cream.Yummmy. It was the perfect ending for an already promising start of our Road trip through Normandy and Brittany.
